Multilevel MPSoC Performance Evaluation: New ISSPT Model

    Get PDF
To deploy the enormous hardware resources available in Multi Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoC) efficiently, rapidly and accurately, methods of Design Space Exploration (DSE) are needed to evaluate the different design alternatives. In this paper, we present a framework that makes fast simulation and performance evaluation of MPSoC possible early in the design flow, thus reducing the time-to-market. In this framework and within the Transaction Level Modeling (TLM) approach, we present a new definition of ISS level by introducing two complementary modeling sublevels ISST and ISSPT. This later, that we illustrate an arbiter modeling approach that allows a high performance MPSoC communication. A round-robin method is chosen because it is simple, minimizes the communication latency and has an accepted speed-up. Two applications are tested and used to validate our platform: Game of life and JPEG Encoder. The performance of the proposed approach has been analyzed in our platform MPSoC based on multi-MicroBlaze. Simulation results show with ISSPT sublevels gives a high simulation speedup factor of up to 32 with a negligible performance estimation error margin

    Get PDF
The clipping and filtering method is analyzed in terms of power savings. The analysis takes account of the gain in the amplifier efficiency due to peak-to-average-power-ratio (PAPR) reduction. Assuming a linear amplifier and a typical digital signal processor, the power savings is shown to be in the order of Watts

The relationship between the dimensions of the internal auditory canal and the anomalies of the vestibulocochlear nerve

    Get PDF
Background: Internal auditory canal (IAC) stenosis and vestibulocochlear nerve (VCN) abnormalities have been reported to be associated with sensorineural hearing loss. Previous studies classified the normal dimensions of the IAC and its anomalies with no consideration of the VCN. Other studies categorised the VCN development in only stenotic canals. In the present study, an anatomical classification of the normal dimensions of the IAC and its anomalies and their association with malformations of the VCN and its subdivisions were described. Materials and methods: Retrospective review was undertaken for children ranged from 1 to 10 years. A total of 764 canals were investigated for pre-operative assessment of cochlear implantation. Other 100 canals of normal hearing ears were included as the control group. The maximum anteroposterior diameter, considered the width of the canal, was measured in axial plane and the length of the canal was identified in coronal plane. The canals were categorised normal: if they are from 3 to 8 mm, patulous: if they are more than 8 mm, stenotic: if they are less than 3 mm and atretic if absent, using multislice computed tomography. The VCN trunks and their subdivisions were investigated using magnetic resonance imaging. Results: Internal auditory canals were found normal in 66% with a mean width: 5.27 ± ± 0.68, patulous in 17% with a mean width 113% more than that of the control group (p = 0.000), stenotic in 13% with a mean width 73% less as compared to that of the control group (p = 0.000) and atretic in 4% of the experimental canals. The VCN trunks were found normal with well-developed subdivisions in 77.8% of the normal canals, 98.4% of the patulous canals, and 19.2% of the stenotic canals. The VCN trunks were normal with hypoplastic subdivisions in 11.3% of the normal canals, 1.6% in the patulous canals, and 61.6% in the stenotic canals with a mean width 52% less than that of the normal trunk with developed subdivisions. Hypoplastic VCN trunks with absent subdivisions were reported in 7.3% of the normal canals, 11.1% of the stenotic canals and in 3.2% of the atretic canals. The VCN trunks were not found in 3.6% of the normal canals, in 8.1% of the stenotic canals and in 96.8% of the atretic canals. Conclusions: Internal auditory canal formation was dependent on the process of development and growth of the eighth cranial nerve and its subdivisions that greatly affected the completion of IAC canalisation. This paper could serve as a reference providing a quantitative classification of the relationship between the dimensions of the IAC and the development of the VCN trunk and its subdivisions

Single-bit adaptive channel equalization for narrowband signals

    Get PDF
In this paper, a new design of a single-bit adaptive channel equalization is proposed using sigma delta modulation and a single-bit block Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm. With correlated narrowband input signals, this model is capable to converge and provide equivalent equalization filter with improvement in the SNR and very low Symbol Error Rate (SER). The input, filter coefficients and output values are all in single-bit and ternary format that results in a reduction in hardware complexity compared to traditional multi-bit channel equalization. Additionally, the technique avoids the need for successive conversion from multi-bit to single bit and back at the receiver and transmitter stages

    Signal processing using short word-length

    Get PDF
Recently short word-length (normally 1 bit or bits) processing has become a promising technique. However, there are unresolved issues in sigma-delta modulation, which is the basis for 1b/2b systems. These issues hindered the full adoption of single-bit techniues in industry. Among these problems is the stability of high-order modulators and the limit cycle behaviour. More importantly, there is no adaptive LMS structure of any kind in 1b/2b domain. The challenge in this problem is the harsh quantization that prevents straightforward LMS application. In this thesis, the focus has been made on three axes: designing new single-bit DSP applications, proposing novel approaches for stability analysis, and tacking the unresolved problems of 1b/2b adaptive filtering. Two structures for 1b digital comb filtering are proposed. A ternary DC blocker structure is also presented and performanc e is tested. We also proposed a single-bit multiplierless DC-blocking structure. The stability of a single-bit high-order signma-delta modulator is studied under dc inputs. A new approach for stability analysis is proposed based on analogy with PLL analysis. Finally we succeeded in designing 1b/2b Wiener-like filtering and introduced (for the first time) three 1b/2b adaptive schemes

    Get PDF
Waste sugarcane bagasse-ash and graphite utilizing as reinforcement in fabricating of an aluminium alloy (Al-7075) based matrix hybrid composites. The aluminium matrix hybrid composites have been fabricated by stir-casting method at 750 °C. Casting was developed in circular metal mould having 5 circular slots of diameter of 21 mm and length of 250 mm. Adding bagasse-ash with varying reinforcement of three cases, in first case 2% constant with varying graphite 1%, 3%, and 5%, in second case 4%, and in third case 6% constant with varying same graphite percentage. The effect of the reinforcement has been performed through various mechanical tests. The mechanical properties measuring such as Brinell hardness and tensile strength of both the samples have been prepared as per the ASTM E23 and E8 standards. Results give out that there will be greater effect of reinforcing different bagasse-ash in aluminium alloy matrix hybrid composites. In the third case more enhanced mechanical properties have been achieved as compared to case one and two of bagasse-ash combination. It shows that the selection of bagasse-ash as reinforcement has one of the most significant criteria for the fabrication of aluminium matrix hybrid composites
